Chess Vocabulary: Poisoned Pawn

A poisoned pawn is a pawn that looks free to capture but is actually dangerous. If your opponent takes it, they suffer a serious consequence—such as losing material, falling into a trap, or getting checkmated.
In short:
The pawn is bait. Taking it is a mistake.
